01 Platform Meeting 2018 Beijing Recap The ico-D Platforms were created by the Council as a meeting for Professional, Promotional and Educational Members, Observers and Board Members gather in one place to share common issues and challenges. This year, 2018 ico-D Platform Meeting (PM) was a three-day event held in Beijing (China) on 18–20 September 2018 and hosted by ico-D Member Central Academy of Fine Arts of China (CAFA) at the CAFA Campus. This year's theme was 'Design is Changing'. Read more		02 Icographic Could there be one language for one world? Issue 08 from 1978 proposes: a 'plastic language kit’ where ideograms and phonetic systems collide to assist non-verbal children; unmoving the skill behind commemorative stamps and the corporate identities of countries, cities, towns and villages; the earliest beginnings of writing from the Asian Cultural Centre for Unesco and an exploration of the Engraving Room of the French State Press in Paris. 03 Montréal Design Declaration A Pre-Summit meeting be conducted in Saint-Étienne (France) on 03–05 April 2019. This was announced by the Design Summit Meeting Steering Committee, who met in Brussels (Belgium) on 01–02 September 2018 to analyse the results of a survey conducted among participating organisations regarding the list of 20 proposed Projects listed in the Declaration Annex. Read more	04 exhibition: blak design matters Challenging our preconceptions of what we think we know Indigenous design to be, "Blak Design Matters is a snapshot in time of a range of different Indigenous design practitioners, from a range of disciplines, and their work."—Curator and ico-D Member spokesperson for INDIGO, Jefa Greenaway, in interview for Art Guide Australia, the first exhibition dedicated to indigenous design in the country: Blak Design Matters, 21 July–30 September 2018 at Koorie Heritage Trust Galleries, Melbourne (Australia). Link to the article Read Russell Kennedy for a historical perspective on Blak Design	05 Member Forum ico-D will be publishing a series of talks pulled from the Member Forum portion of the Platform Meetings, to bring forth regional design challenges. The first article submission is by Jonas Liugaila of ico-D Member the Lithuanian Graphic Design Association. Presented at the 'Design is Changing' Platform Meeting held in Beijing (China) on 18–20 September, Jonas' article is a discussion on the current situation for designers in Lithuania as they adapt to the challenges created by the Soviet period. Read story	07 ico-D Events The ico-D ASEAN Regional Meeting conducted in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) on 05–06 February 2018 brought together associations, schools, government entities and various design entities from the South-East Asian design community to connect and share on a variety of topics. The RM Report is now available. Download and read	08 ico-D Events With 7 out of 10 of world’s most rapidly growing economies on the continent, Africa is starting to generate a lot of interest. The Afrika Regional Meeting will be held on 05–06 February 2019 in Accra (Ghana) and will be hosted by ico-D Corresponding Entity DesignGhana. Design entities from around Africa will come together to discuss National Design Policy, Post-Colonial Design Education with emphasis on Culture, Innovation and Sustainability, Inter-African and International Exchange Opportunities and more! 09 Adobe Design Achievement Awards The winners and finalists of the 2018 ADAA have been officially announced! This year was a record-breaking year with 8102 submissions, 2454 semifinalists, and 64 honourees. Read more	10 ico-D News We are pleased to announce Marnie Guglielmi-Vitullo as ico-D Programmes Manager, responsible for the delivery of the annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards and for the development of the ico-D ADAA Mentorship programme. She joins the team at the ico-D Secretariat in Montréal. Meet Marnie	11 ADAA feature At the Final Judging on 10–11 August in San Francisco, ico-D took the opportunity to interview the finalist Judges to find out more about their own process as professionals in the field of design, and to gain some expert insight on what Judges find most compelling about students' work.
